Amazon Launches Much Anticipated Cloud Music Player App for Iphone
Amazon announced today the availability of its new Cloud Music Player App on the Itunes App Store see (Press Release) below. It has been over a year since Amazon launched its cloud music service, and since then a number of high profile cloud solutions, and services hit the market, a few examples are Apple icloud, Google Music, and Spotify.
I have personally tried all of these services and have found disappointment in each up to this point. The google music service did not launch with an ios player, the apple icloud implementation isn’t their usual ease of use, hassle free program, instead it downloads every song to the iphone device when not on wifi which eats up precious storage quickly, and spotify did not have my entire music collection in their catalog, on top of the per month fee to have access to the mobile functionality, none of these gave me the solution I was looking for.
This may have all changed with the Amazon launch. After my initial download I wanted to compare the Amazon player experience with the apple icloud mobile solution I have been using, on a now antiquated iphone 3gs. My immediate impression is very positive. The App is slick and streams very fast over both wifi and a 3g connection. The app did not download each song to my iphone like icloud does, which was a serious relief, considering the age and minimum storage capacity of the device.
The layout is conducive to a music aficionado, giving access to the playlist, artist, albums, songs, and genres, right from the main screen. There is a cloud or device option, device option allows you to access any music currently downloaded to the device. A settings button provides access to manage downloads auto download Amazon MP3 purchases, and the ability to turn on and off stream only on wifi if you are worried about your data plan.
The player allows you to download individual songs or albums for offline listening just by swiping the song or album, as well as add to a playlist. Overall this is the cloud player I have been looking for and will earn my business over icloud this year.
