Q Emoticons: Google and Verizon :-) while Microsoft and Nokia :-(

Quarerly reports are hitting the news wire and some of the biggest companies in the nation are posting their public earning statements this week.
GOOGLE
The earnings report for Google which included the integration of acquired Motorola, reported revenues of $12.21B up from $10.65B in Q1. These revenues speak to the impact of the mobility sector and importance of its droid and tablet divisions.
Verizon
The telecom, mobile, and wireless giant Verizon as expected, has remained a solid leader and performer in the space posting revenues of $15.2B
Microsoft
In its first ever loss since becoming a publicly traded company; Microsoft posted a $492M loss due to its writedown of failed acquisition of advertising company aQuantitive. Total revenue for Microsoft was $18.06B up from $17.41B in Q3 making this more like a :-/ Microsoft is betting big on Windows 8 and has acquired a number of companies to bring its master plan together. The next few quarters should be interesting to say the least.
Nokia :_(
Tears may not be enough to describe Nokia’s Q2 performance, is there a puking emoticon? Nokia reported a loss of $1.74B on revenue of $9.21B and smart phone sales fell 39%. Nokia is trying hard to turn itself around with layoffs, price slashing, and anything it can do to fight for a life jacket. The Microsoft powered Lumia device only sold a meager 600K units in the US but had a better outcome in other countries with a total of 4M units sold total worldwide.
