Google adds more plus with Snapseed Acquisition

Google has continued to add to its Google+ environment, the latest being an announcement to acquire Nik Software known for its photo app Snapseed. The popular application is a photo-editing program that provides Instagram like features and additional editing capabilities.
Many have touted Google +’s photo features as superior to other social media platforms and the acquisition will further enhance the sites photo capabilities. Nik Software provides a number of apps on the app store though Google’s acquisition seems to be focused on the Snapseed application, which has an iOS, MAC OS, and Windows version.
The acquisition will provide a competing platform to Facebook’s Instagram platform and allow Google to have an alternative solution for users looking for a different experience. Google has not released specifics of the acquisition and it has not yet been announced how much Google has paid for the company.
Instagram was purchased by facebook for $1B dollars and the purchase was recently finalized and approved. Instagram has quite the headstart with well over 80M users and growing in comparison to Snapseed’s 9M. With integration into Google+ the editing tool would be provided to over 400M users giving it a big boost.
