Facebook hits 1Billion Active Users Seems like a Bargain at $22/Share

Facebook, the social giant announced today that it has surpassed 1Billion active users on its platform see (press statement) below. Mark Zuckerberg CEO of Facebook released the statement and also released some amazing key metrics see (fact sheet) below.
Facebook actually reached the 1Billion mark on September 14th at 12:45PM PST. It is surprising that they waited almost a month to release the information, as this is quite an accomplishment for any company. Zuckerberg has been touring Russia meeting with leaders, and even ended up in a late night Russian talk show.
The wait may be a tactical move and may be a hope to bolster the stock, though the prices have stayed pretty steady between $21 and $22. The real challenge for Facebook has been in coming up with a definitive monetization of its platform. With a billion active users, the stock should have a far higher valuation than it currently has, and definitely sends a message from investors that much more is expected from the company.
Some of the key metrics pointed out by Zuckerberg are over 1.13Trillion likes, 219Billion photo uploads, over 17Billion location tags and check-ins, and 22Billion music plays. The company has found the median age of users is 22yrs old and the platform has 600Million users connecting from mobile devices. This data speaks to just the impact that mobility is having on the world.
There are an estimated 7.043Billion people in the world and Facebook can account for 1/7th of the world population. This is some accomplishment for a company and sure makes it sound like a bargain at $22/share. It would seem like it should just be a matter of time for the magic monetization formula to be figured out, and when that time comes, we will all be kicking ourselves for not buying. I remember apple at $35/share sure wish I would have bought then…
This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.
If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.
Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.
I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.
