Presenting your Business

I have heard many times that if you dress like a professional, you are perceived as professional. This has been a debate in the IT industry for many years with some saying you dress to your customer base, while others say you must always wear professional business attire to any sales engagement. This debate will continue on but one thing I truly believe is investing in your businesses’ appearance will make a lasting impression on any potential customer.

Everything that you do is a reflection of you and your business. From the way you shake a persons hand to the business card you present, and for many you will only get one chance to make a first impression. This is why it is important to present yourself and your business in the highest regard possible.

Some common ways to increase your chances of a good first impression are as follows:

Office – De-clutter office and workspace areas. Make sure employees don’t leave cans bottles or trash where others can see. Even if you have very little office traffic it is always a good idea to have a clean, functional workplace.

Vehicles – Ensure that your vehicles are always clean and free from trash. Vehicles can bring a good amount of attention to your business and are a good source of potential new business. Invest in vehicle wraps over magnetic signage to get the most advertising and marketing bang for your buck.

Business Cards – Business cards are a great way to leave a lasting impression. Find a unique business card that will be memorable. Standard business cards or cards that are cheaply made should be replaced. A simple web search for “unique business cards” should help give you some ideas of ways to stand out.

Dress – Uniforms or dress is another good way to make an impression. I have seen companies that do a great job of creating a lasting image. Some have a certain color tie with matching shirts as uniforms or bold colors. Be creative and add some style to your business.

As a small business, especially in competitive markets, it is essential to create a lasting impression with potential and current customers. Making small investments into the business that will help to create a unique experience will help to differentiate you from your competition.
